Notes on dinner

Some questions that arose when making dinner last night:

  • Are currants the same as raisins?

  • Why the spinach dish in two pots instead of one?

  • Is balsamic vinegar the same as red wine vinegar?

  • What the hell are shallots? (A: they're like onions but smaller and more garlic shaped)

  • Do pine nuts come from pine trees?

  • Is 2 tbsps of paprika an absurd amount? (A: kinda)

  • Did I slice the shallots finely enough?

  • How does the flavor differ in sliced garlic vs garlic put through a press? (assume you saute the same way)

    Also, Liska bought a "salad spinner."
