I saw someone on the bus the other day wearing a "International Institute of Nephrology" t-shirt. I was really intrigued and wanted to ask what it meant, but the guy got off before I could. My best guess was that it had something to do with mummies in tombs, but I was wrong.
n. The science that deals with the kidneys, especially their functions or diseases.
It's too bad, wouldn't it have been cool if the guy specialized in mummies? I had this image of him spelunking through tombs, Indiana-Jones style.
I am so ashamed of all the wine/cranberry juice/misc. stains on my bedroom carpet. It will have to come out of my deposit. It is my fault, but at the same time I have to wonder-- what the hell were they thinking when they put in WHITE carpet? Carpet should never, ever, EVER be white.
In casinos the carpet is always a garish brightly colored pattern, to keep stains from showing. I wish I had casino carpet.
I'm freaking out. I realized today that I only have 2 weeks till I leave. And I need to figure out COBRA (health insurance stuff), finish expenses, hire a uhaul, pack and move all my stuff into storage, get my hepatitis booster... wah wah wah.
My old college roommate Matt (not to be confused with mattorb) is coming to visit this weekend. The last time I saw Matt was New Year's 1999, in Genoa. 1999 meaning, it was about to become 2000. It was me, Matt, and Matt's two friends from Kentucky. All three of them were philosophy grad students who were in Europe on Fulbrights. As you can imagine, they were an intense bunch. We smoked a lot of hash, drank unfathomable quantities of cheap Italian wine, consumed copious amounts of pesto and stayed up until 4AM every night discussing philosophy and listening to hip hop and playing bridge. "Black on Both Sides" had come out pretty recently, so we played that a lot. On New Years day we all took x and headed out to the town square. People were lighting firecrackers and I kept imagining it was gunfire. There was a big fountain in the middle of the square and a huge tv screen, where people had gathered to watch some old guy croon tunes. The scene was surprisingly subdued, so we ended up going back to Graham's apt. and jumping around to "Decks FX and 909". I was feeling mighty fine that night.
Memories of Genoa-- there was this bar and the bartenders were identical twin brothers. They both had goatees, eerily well groomed, and they knew all kinds of crazy drinks. I felt like I was in a David Lynch movie, watching them pour drinks in unison. Their main hobby seemed to be making fun of Graham's Italian.
